Gem heralds 'ambient' relationship with Philips

Distributor is granted sole UK distribution rights for amBX home entertainment range

Written by Sara Yirrell

Distribution giant Gem has won an exclusive deal to supply Philips' amBX home entertainment range to the UK market.

The term amBX is shorthand for ambient experiences, and the technology uses a blend of lighting, sound and other experiences to immerse the end user in the entertainment they are involved in - whether it is gaming, films or music.

One of the key products from the amBX range is the amBX Premium - a light/speaker combo which allows light, sound, air and vibration to synch with the game and literally bring it into the room.

Simon Lee, commercial and marketing director at Gem, said: "Our agreement is mutually beneficial and opens up new trading potential for both companies. Philips perfectly compliments Gem's current range of vendors and further strengthens our commitment to the Audiovisual market. amBX has gathered a huge amount of positive reaction, and as sole distributor of the amBX range, which is a great endorsement for Gem's launching skills, we are looking forward to bringing this product to the UK."

Duncan Blom, business manager for amBX, said: "Gem's record as a trusted and successful distributor meant they were a natural choice to distribute amBX. Its extensive knowledge and experience of UK retail and the gaming market, make them the ideal partner to introduce amBX to the UK channels."
