For the birds

25 Jul 2011

I'm quite happy to say that I've never played Angry Birds. I've never seen anyone play Aangrybirds-bigngry Birds, nor do I know how one goes about doing so.

I can only assume that it features some birds, angry ones, and that it's diverting enough for hundreds of millions of people to devote their precious time to playing it. But, if I was worried about missing the boat on this hot, hot trend, (not massively, as it goes), then I needn't have worried, as I can just wait for the Angry Birds movie to come out. No, really.

Speaking to Variety earlier this month, Marvel Studios chairman David Maisel revealed he has been appointed as a special advisor to Rovio, the company behind the überpopular app. The Marvellous movie man is reportedly excited by the "emotional connection" people have with the characters. Such as they are.

I'm reliably informed that the game requires you to hurl birds (angry ones) at naughty pigs. Which, you've gotta admit, sounds ideal fodder for a summer blockbuster. (I'm thinking Ashton Kutcher would make a great bird. Or a pig.)

Alas, according to The Telegraph, the film won't hit screens before 2014. And I'm beyond sure that there's no chance the whole Angry Birds thing will be a fad whose popularity has severely waned by then.
