VAR Leapfrog Computers has signed a lucrative partnership with electrical wholesaler City Electrical Factors (CEF) to help its customers comply with the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) directive.

Under the terms of the deal, CEF will act as the disposal partner for the Bolton-based reseller.

Lee Bevan, managing director of Leapfrog, told CRN: “I had been looking at a way to embrace the WEEE directive and offer a service around the regulations to our customers for some time. It wasn’t feasible for us to apply for a waste licence and collect and dispose of customers’ WEEE ourselves, so we decided to look for a suitable partner. CEF met the criteria. We will sell CEF’s offering as a service.”

CEF’s easyWEEE division currently has more than 30 dedicated vehicles supported by a further 700 vans at its collection centres. Its aim is to become one of the main service providers for the recycling of business-to-business WEEE in the UK.

Ian Buckley, sales rep at CEF’s Bolton branch, said: “Our easyWEEE division will handle all the processing and recycling of Leapfrog’s customers’ WEEE. We’ll collect all the old equipment and treat it correctly. It takes all of the stress out of the whole process for Leapfrog.”

He said CEF was also looking for other resellers to partner with.

Bevan added: “All our quotes to customers will now include a price for the disposal of their business to business WEEE – they can choose whether to do it themselves or let us do it. It creates a little bit of margin for us, but it is more about the value-add we can give to our customers.”
