Security VAR Enline is in a bullish mood after winning a £200,000 contract to implement a single sign-on (SSO) system across Addenbrooks hospital in Cambridge.

The VAR has claimed the win will open the door to other NHS organisations, following the implementation of the National Programme for IT (NPfIT) smart card and PIN system.

Using Imprivata’s OneSign enterprise SSO appliance, the implementation, which started in January and is due for completion later this year, ensures medical staff no longer have up to eight passwords to remember. Instead they can sign straight onto their network using just one password.

Brent Thurrell, sales manager at Enline, said: “With 8,500 people onsite, passwords were a huge issue. But we were able to use the existing smartcard authentication framework already in place to solve the problem.”

Mike Nelsey, managing director of Enline, said: “All NHS trusts have the same issues. This has given us the opportunity to go to a large number of organisations with this solution.”

Wayne Parslow vice-president of European operations at Imprivata, said: “Enline’s technicians are innovative. They found a way to make use of existing technology in the NpfIT. It is something that both the employees and the hospital want.”
