Aimed at all sectors of the market, including IT, the London 2012 Business
Network, launched by the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) and London Organising
Committee, is predicting more than £6bn worth of work with over 75,000 contracts
up for grabs in the run-up to the Games.
The Network has three main parts: information on upcoming opportunities;
business events; and the CompeteFor service, which matches companies to
available contracts.
An ODA representative told CRN: “This is all about supply chain
opportunities and working with the contractors for those opportunities. IT will
play a major part in this as it is a huge sector.”
Simon Briault, representative for
the
Federation of Small Businesses, said: “This is good news for SMEs although
there is a danger that the contracts could still go through the normal supply
chains. The acid test will be whether the sub-contracting opportunities will
come the way of firms that have registered.”
Mike Gammie, IT services development manager at
Misco,
said: “This is going to be a huge opportunity for the IT channel. We will
definitely be taking advantage of it.”
