Sphinx has inked a deal to become security vendor Bluesocket’s second UK distributor, just a week after it was axed by Oracle.

The distributor will join InTechnology in the Bluesocket stable, and will be privy to the vendor’s entire product range.

Jim Calderbank, director channel EMEA told CRN that the agreement will go live this week. “We only had a single distributor in the UK in InTechnology, whereas we had two distributors in all of our other territories, so it made sense to up the number here,” he said. “Sphinx is a good fit, with good security and networking skills.

“I do expect there will be some overlap in their reseller customers and there are bound to be some resellers who move from one to the other, but this is only natural. I do not expect a bloodbath of competition.” Calderbank said it was not for Bluesocket to dictate to resellers where to buy from.

“Our main goal here is to recruit resellers. Wed have around 25 resellers in the UK at the moment and we are looking to at least double this number. The wireless networking market is full of opportunity so I cannot imagine this being a problem.”
Nick Bannister, sales director of Sphinx, said in a statement:

“The two companies dovetail nicely into one another – we had a gap in our portfolio for a wireless security vendor and Bluesocket needed a new channel to market. Our immediate plans are to get Bluesocket in front of our top dozen or so VARs to introduce them to the product set and the company, then we’ll broaden our marketing out to about 100 resellers.”
