Amstrad has announced reduced first-half losses after its restructure last year, but said it will still need to set aside cash to continue its restructuring of the consumer electronics business.
All three Amstrad businesses, Dancall, Viglen and Betacom, have improved their results. Alan Sugar, Amstrad chairman, said: ?We are pleased, and see more than the light at the end of the tunnel. Our three businesses are poised for profit growth.?
PC manufacturing arm Viglen maintained operating profits at #4.7 million. Dancall, the digital telephone operation, moved into profit in Q4 on sales of #45.4 million.
Last year?s restructure involved transferring the loss-making consumer electronics division into cordless phone company Betacom. The company also created a wholly owned subsidiary, Digicom, to both develop and market digital, cable and satellite set-top boxes.
