Acer has thrown down the gauntlet to rival PC vendor Dell, claiming it is no longer regarded as a threat and that it should be concerned as competitors look to capitalise on its declining market share.
Speaking exclusively to CRN, Semmy Levit, UK country manager at Acer, said:
“Dell is not a threat. If anything, it is the other way around and Acer is a
threat to Dell. It is a big company and it is very good at what it is doing, but
it is suffering at the moment and we are looking to capitalise on this. Dell’s
current position provides an opportunity for Acer to win back some business and
that is what we hope to do.”
Gianpiero Morbello, European marketing director at Acer, added: “We are gaining
market share where Dell is losing. For us it is not a threat.”
Levitt was confident resellers will also benefit. “The reseller has an
opportunity,” he explained. “The business that Dell has in the UK is at the
expense of the reseller. Acer works with just the channel.”
Jonathan Wall, marketing director at Acer reseller, Dabs.com, said: “Dell losing
market share is always good news for resellers. Any business it loses will come
back into the channel.
“We have benefited from working with the likes of Acer as it has looked to
drive down Dell’s business through its channel strategy and resellers have
reaped the rewards from the renewed business.”

Worst support ever
I would agree wholeheartedly with the last two comments. I tried recently to get Acer to repair my laptop - an issues which arose just 2 weeks after the 12 month warranty and was told it would cost £54 just to send it to them to have the problem diagnosed (I know what the problem is)! I will be contacting Semmy Levit.

acer customer service
acer has the worst customer service of any company that I have ever dealt with.
I bought a lap top from them and when it required reboot discs (it runs XP platform) Acer were unable to supply them. It took them 3 months to admit that discs were unavailable.

Acer?
I'm sorry, but what is Acer? When it comes to quality and support, Acer is NOT on my list. At least Dell is on my list for support. I'd purchase Dell before some cheap production made by Acer.
