VAR Redstone has bagged a £13m win to supply the communications system for the new Westfield shopping centre development in White City.
The 40-acre centre will be Europe’s largest in-town centre upon completion, hosting 250 retail outlets, a 14-screen cinema and a health spa.
Redstone will supply an IP and communications system for the entire centre, including a Cisco-based solution allowing staff to correspond with each other using lapel badges with built-in communications unit. The roll-out is set to be completed by the end of 2008.
Redstone said it has only been able to bid for these large-scale, highly specialised IP infrastructure projects since it bought rival Comunica in February (CRN, 8 February).
Martin Balaam, chief executive of Redstone, said: “Being selected to provide our OneNet solution to the largest in-town shopping centre in Europe shows how far Redstone has come in recent years.
“Our Converged Solutions division has shown that it can repeat its success in winning these large contracts, particularly now that the Comunica team has brought an additional array of expertise and key relationships, as with Westfield.
