mvision is hoping to help push Tandberg's high-definition telepresence.

Audiovisual VAR mvision has become the first Tandberg partner in the world to achieve accredited centre of excellence status, as the vendor looks to ramp up its high-definition telepresence and mobile video sales.

The move follows Tandberg’s recent launch of instant telepresence systems, designed to take away the cost of ownership of this high-end conferencing technology.

Simon Egan, Tandberg’s vice president for western Europe, said: “The problem with the original boardroom videoconferencing systems was they needed so much support, they were under-used. The beauty of this system is that it can be provisioned and managed easily.”

Terry Dwyer, mvision’s managing director, said in market recognition terms, telepresence’s growth will take a similar pattern to that of the fax machine. “Initially, no one used it, but once it was made easy they all wanted it,” he said. “If you package technology in the right form, you can excite a lot of interest.”

Dominic Dodd, principal analyst at market researcher Frost & Sullivan, predicted above average market growth for the telepresence sector of IT. “The growth rate for telepresence systems will be 106 per cent per year and will be worth $1.4bn by 2014,” he said.
