A lesson learned: Mexborough claims wireless kit can "extend education beyond the classroom"

Reseller s2s and sister firm Bailey Teswaine have completed the rollout of a wireless network for Mexborough School.

The school, which is a Specialist Science College, recently moved to a purpose-built campus in Doncaster. As part of the relocation, Mexborough opted to switch from wired to wireless technology and the new network includes core and access layer switching.

Mexborough's ICT network manager Dale Armstrong said: "We wanted to embrace a wireless culture. Mobile computing technology is now more affordable than ever and our students are now able to use mobile devices all around the school. Rather than being confined to one room, education has been extended beyond the classroom.”

The VARs, which are subsidiaries of parent company NG Bailey, claim the school will now benefit from increased accessibility, security and data transfer speeds. Bailey Teswaine handled all the project's cabling requirements, while s2s took care of the network's design and installation.

Armstrong claimed s2s had made a compelling case from both a performance and return on investment standpoint. " s2s was extremely competitive," he added. " They went on to suggest many great solutions to issues that arose during the project and continued to offer great value."

Armstrong added that s2s' security expertise and its status as a Cisco Gold partner had helped seal the deal. "Certain data held on our network relates to young people, some of which is very sensitive," he added.

"s2s’ credentials as a security specialist mean that we are absolutely confident that our students are safe while they use the internet and email.”
