Software asset management (SAM) industry guru Alex Hilton is heading for the exit doors of CRM and software vendor FrontRange Solutions, CRN has learned.
In his position as director of infrastructure management, Hilton had spearheaded FrontRange’s Centennial business since FrontRange bought the SAM vendor two years ago. He was previously vice president of sales at Centennial.
Hilton is also vice president of the Software Industry Research Board and previously headed up Microsoft’s SAM Group and chaired the Business Software Alliance (BSA) in the UK.

650-strong FrontRange said Hilton’s role had become redundant as the vendor more tightly integrates the various brands it has acquired.
Ian McEwan, who joined FrontRange six weeks ago as vice president of sales, said: “When I came into FrontRange and saw it had acquired Centennial and Enteo it was about bringing these brands in under FrontRange as a company."
McEwan described Hilton's departure as “mutual”.
“Regional directors are now taking control of all the brands so Alex’s role is non-existent,” he said. “We would have liked to keep him on but we couldn’t find a role that was right for his level of seniority.”
Hilton’s last day is tomorrow.
