Distributor Cohort Technologies has bolstered its managed services portfolio by adding an audit/test service that tackles the growing problem of botnets and spyware.

The service is part of the IPFixIT Network Access Control (NAC) portfolio launched earlier this year (CRN, 21 May) and is sold via resellers using the WebGate Platform from security vendor Mi5 Networks.

Grahame Smee, managing director of Cohort, said: “Botnets, which are created by spyware applications, are often an unknown threat to many firms because they do not even realise their PCs are infected.

“With this service Cohort engineers will go out to a company, test every PC on behalf of the reseller to see if they are infected and will then report back exactly what the problems are,” Smee added. “It is all part of our business model with resellers to get them more involved in the margin-rich area of services.”

He said Cohort can do as much or as little of the service as the VAR desires, from the testing, right through to providing future services.

Smee claimed that the service is fully scalable, catering for firms with upwards of 10,000 users down to the smallest SME customer.

Jack Orton, marketing manager at VAR Secon has recently signed with Cohort to supply IPFixIT services to its customers.

“We have rebranded Cohort’s services as our own because it is another string to our bow and helps to widen our portfolio,” he said.
