Irish reseller Calyx has turned to the UK market with the acquisition of ITS Technology Services.
ITS is a Cisco and Nortel reseller, which covers networking and system integration. The deal contributes to Calyx’s planned growth in the
UK through acquisitions funded by the £10m raised when it floated on the London stock exchange.
The deal, which cost £2.5m, is Calyx’s third in four months, and its first in the UK. No job losses are expected.
Maurice Healy, chief executive of Calyx, told CRN: “It has always been our stated intention to launch and develop in the UK. The acquisition of ITS provides the ideal springboard from which to do this.”
Healy added that ITS’s customer base and management team will give Calyx the footprint needed to bring its remote managed services to market. “We believe we are in a good position to focus on the buoyant UK market,” he said.
However, Martin Cross, business development director at Nortel reseller Connect Communications, warned that Calyx may struggle in a congested market place.
“The Nortel reseller market is crowded and is becoming more and more competitive with people struggling to differentiate.
“Other firms have attempted to launch [Irish resellers] in the UK and most of the time this has gone badly. You just do not hear about them anymore,” he said.
