Distributor Siracom has hailed the Unidata WPU7700 voice over Wi-Fi handset as a lucrative opportunity for VARs to sell into their existing customer base.
Siracom has claimed the handsets, which work with any SIP-based PBX and are available for £150, offer healthy margins.
The distributor highlighted the opportunities available by pointing to a 2007 report from Juniper Research predicting the voice over Wi-Fi equipment market would be worth $82bn (£53.3bn) by 2012.

Siracom sales director Rob Leggett said: “A lot of voice over Wi-Fi handsets have shortfalls and do not have enterprise PBX functionality. Unidata worked with us to provide the enterprise functionality the European business market wants.”
Leggett said Unidata fits well alongside Siracom’s PBX vendors, which include Zultys, Zed-3 and Aastra. He also claimed that reseller feedback on the handsets has been positive so far.
“Hundreds of resellers are busily selling IP PBX products. This gives them an opportunity to upsell,” he added.
