Virtualisation vendor VMware has appointed Mark Newton as regional director for the firm’s UK and Ireland operations.
Newton joins VMware from distributor IBS and has previously held management positions at BMC and Oracle. He replaces Chris Hammans, who left VMware to join emerging vendor Pano Logic in November.
In his new role, Newton will be responsible for VMware’s growth and business strategy, as well as overseeing the firm’s sales, marketing and customer service operations.

“This is an exciting time to be joining VMware,” said Newton. “In addition to maintaining our leadership in server virtualisation technologies, I look forward to driving growth in VMware’s desktop virtualisation and private cloud offerings.
“There is a tremendous opportunity here to help organisations transform the way they work and take their business to the next level.”
Matt Piercy, vice president of VMware’s northern EMEA region, added: “Mark brings with him 20 years of experience in the IT industry and we are sure his leadership and breadth of expertise will help VMware go from strength to strength.”
