Niall Moynihan, one of the founding members of Check Point’s UK presence, has resurfaced at networking giant Cisco.

Moynihan worked at security vendor Check Point for 10 years, but parted company with the firm last month (CRN, 14 August). The last position Moynihan held was country manager for Ireland and Africa.

He has now assumed the role of advanced technologies business development leader for emerging markets at Cisco.

Moynihan told CRN: “After all those years at Check Point there have been a lot of changes in how vendors deal with partners and the channel.

“Moving to Cisco was an easy choice because it has a clear roadmap and vision. Every day I’m seeing more positive developments.”

Moynihan said he has experience of dealing with emerging markets from his time at Check Point, and will be able to take the Cisco offering to his base of contacts in the channel.

Bernie Dodwell, European security manager at Check Point and Cisco distributor Westcon, said: “Moynihan is a good guy and will bring a lot of ability to Cisco’s security proposition. He is very knowledgeable and experienced in security.”

Dodwell added that Moynihan’s role at Cisco is likely to cover Eastern Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

Nick Lowe, UK managing director of Check Point, said: “I’m sad he has gone to Cisco. I didn’t want him to go, but people move on.”

Nick Garlick, managing director at Check Point VAR Nebulas Security, said: “Despite Moynihan being one of the original Check Point UK team, we have had little interaction with him in the past four years.”

Garlick said Moynihan’s departure will have no effect on Check Point’s UK channel as Moynihan was focused on other geographical markets.

“Check Point has a dedicated UK team in place and is doing a great job of supporting us,” he added.
