Websense should no longer be seen as just a URL filtering player, according to its new UK chief.
Andy Philpott, who headed Secure Computing in EMEA for eight years before its
takeover by McAfee, took the reins at the start of the year. He replaces Pat
Dunne.
Philpott said he joins Websense at an “exciting time.”
“Websense is dominant in the URL filtering space, but if it was just a URL
filtering
vendor I would not have been interested in joining,” he said. “It has become a
mature security vendor that can operate in a number of different areas in a
consolidated way.”

Philpott said he wanted to add to the number of UK resellers who are in Websense’s invitation-only Enterprise Alliance Framework (EAF) programme.
Etienne Greeff, director at MIS, which recently became the fourth UK EAF partner, welcomed Philpott’s arrival.
“It is a sign of Websense’s maturity that it is getting in professional managers who know how to grow companies to the next level,” he said.
