A handful of storage vendors have combined their efforts in an attempt to collectively develop a new ecosystem that will allow end-users to better manage their persistent data storage.

The group of vendors, which includes firms such as Sun, Symantec, Seagate and Copan Systems, claimed that the Persistent Data Storage Architecture (PDSA) is the first combined vendor collaboration to specifically address the storage requirements of persistent data.

Mark Ward, chief executive of Copan Systems, said: “We are collaborating with other leaders in the storage and data industries, from application ISVs to storage device manufacturers, to build an ecosystem that delivers an end-to-end persistent-data solution for customers.”

The vendors also claimed that the end-user benefits of a PDSA will include easier access and retrieval of persistent data.
