New direction: @UK PLC has historically sold direct, but wants to ramp up business through resellers

E-procurement vendor @UK PLC is launching its first channel partner programme to capitalise on the success of its cloud computing offering, PlatformGenerator.

The cloud-based platform has clocked up nearly a million users in the UK, claims @UK PLC, thanks to the vendor's direct sales strategy.

To ensure this level of growth continues, the company is now setting its sights on the channel.

Ronald Duncan, chairman of @UK PLC, said the company will officially launch its partner programme in January, but is happy to hear from any interested parties now.

"Experience of cloud computing is not necessarily a priority, but partners should be used to dealing with large organisations," he said.

The plan is to have 20 to 30 large enterprise-focused partners on board by spring 2010.

Keith Humphreys, managing consultant at EuroLan Research, said potential partners should not be put off by @UK PLC's willingness to sell direct to end-users.

"With any new model, you have to go direct initially to prove that it works, " he said. "What the company has to do is make it clear to its partners that - if it plans to continue dealing direct - they will come first."
