Public sector consultancy and software provider Civica 's Journey Time
Management (JTM) software has obtained Urban Traffic Management Control (UTMC)
compliance.
The JTM software works with automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras
and calculates journey times by bringing together data from different areas. It
aims to enable local authorities to make informed decisions on traffic control
based on up to date information. It was recently implemented by Surrey County
Council, where it was integrated with several UTMC common databases.
UTMC is a Department for Transport initiative which was set up in 1997 and aims to encourage an open-minded approach to the use of Intelligent Transport Systems in urban areas.
Dave Scotton, enforcement director at Civica, said: "Civica’s wide experience of working with police and local authorities has been critical in developing the real time JTM module, as has our extensive expertise in ANPR systems. Improving traffic flow around towns and cities is one of the key challenges for local authorities in 2008 and beyond.”
Mark Cartwright, technical secretary of UTMC, said: “Traffic management often requires multiple agencies working together using various technologies. We are delighted that more and more suppliers are developing interoperable products based on the UTMC framework. This is invaluable for authorities and their partners.”
