VAR Proximity Communications is branching out from its Nortel roots to embrace other vendors and to help end users get to grips with unified communications (UC).
The firm was formed in March by the merger of VARs Applinet and Unified Group. New partners include Aerohive, ShoreTel and Radware, which bought Nortel’s Alteon application delivery business in February.
Chief executive Darren Boyce said he wanted to add a contact centre offering to Proximity’s portfolio.

“We always wanted to become vendor independent,” he claimed. “But the technology must complement the Nortel portfolio.”
Proximity was recently awarded voice ready partner status for Microsoft UC and Boyce claimed his firm was “a few weeks away” from bagging a Gold partner badge.
