Technology giant Hewlett-Packard (HP) has formed a new software unit that will accommodate recent business intelligence (BI) conquest Knightsbridge Solutions and its recently-launched Neoview data warehouse solution.

Sitting within HP Software, the Business Information Optimisation unit is designed to ensure HP can manage its customers’ business-critical information throughout its lifecycle.

The division is comprised of two groups: BI and information management.

The BI sub-division, which will be headed up by industry veteran Ben Barnes, will oversee HP Neoview, a data warehouse product HP began shipping last October. It will also be bolstered by HP’s recent purchase of BI and data warehousing vendor Knightsbridge.

HP said it intended to name a leader of the information management sub-division, which has the brief of archiving and managing customers’ corporate data, in the coming weeks.

“This newly launched unit in our HP Software organisation is another important step in our commitment to firmly establish HP as the trusted advisor to CIOs,” said Thomas Hogan, senior vice president, Software, HP.

“We are extending our strength in optimising the business outcomes tied to applications and technology to now include the equally important need to optimise the value of the information itself. This suite of solutions will help businesses maximise the value and impact of their IT investments spanning systems, applications, networks and information.”
