Green machine: Appspeed expects environmental concerns to fuel software sales

Storage and virtualisation distributor Appspeed has extended its deal with Lakeside Software by bagging exclusive rights to the vendor's Systrack Power Management suite.

The software firm develops management offerings for the Windows marketplace. It specialises in green IT and focuses on virtualisation, power management and optimisation of virtual, physical and mixed environments.

The Basingstoke-based VAD is owned by channel veteran Grahame Smee, who serves as managing director of both Appspeed and security and IP telephony distributor Cohort. Smee claimed concerns about both the economy and the environment would help fuel take up of Lakeside Software's technology.

"There are two huge drivers behind the adoption of this technology, one is economic and the overall drive to cut costs and the other is environmental with the accepted need to cut carbon emissions by business in general," he said.

"By implementing the Systrack system of automated power management we can demonstrate a very fast return on investment and also reduce device energy wastage by up to 40 per cent, all with no user intervention. Very powerful in-built reporting makes for easy cost justification."

Lakeside Software's vice president of sales Dean Schumacher added: "We are delighted to be working with Appspeed in this growing business area. With their broad range of partners we are confident that together we can build an effective channel."
