Ready for the golf challenge?

It's time to renew your morgage to buy that driver and sharpen up your skills for this year's CRN Channel Golf Challenge

Written by Sara Driscoll

After another whole year of practising every weekend and subsisting on a diet of Cokes and cold sandwiches from the driving range cafe, it is finally time to show off your skills: the CRN Channel Golf Challenge is back.

For the aspiring Woods and Singhs out there, it is time to don the silly trousers, buy that new driver and get your team together for the channel’s most popular golf event of the year. It is a great opportunity to show your stuff on the course, get in some serious networking, have a slap-up dinner and perhaps even win one of the many prizes on offer.

This year’s CRN Channel Golf Challenge will be held on 27 September at the Foxhills Golf Club and Resort in Surrey. As one participant in last year’s event said: “Golf is the sport of the channel. Even if you are not an expert you can still have a chat, hack around and enjoy yourself.”

The day will kick off at 9am with coffee and bacon rolls in the clubhouse; then a shotgun start at 11am. After a full 18-holes, we will meet back at the clubhouse at 5pm for a delicious meal and, of course, the prizes. This year there will be prizes for the longest drive, nearest to the pin, first, second and third team, and the best individual player.

Winner of the longest drive last year was Graham Fox, managing director of security distributor Fresh Egg, and an associate sponsor for this year’s event. He told CRN: “This is the second time we have sponsored the event and we are delighted to be involved again this year.

“Last year was a great success for us and proved a fantastic platform on which to raise our profile and foster reseller relationships. As a fast-growing company in a highly competitive and dynamic market, it is great to have events like these that help galvanise channel relationships and inject a bit of fun and relaxation into an otherwise frenetic industry.”

Ian Morris, head of Commcentric, headline sponsor for this year’s challenge, said: “For us it is a great opportunity to support the launch of the new company identity to resellers and the wider channel community. Furthermore, it is a fantastic opportunity to mix with industry peers and channel partners, and reinforce existing relationships and build new ones in a fun environment.”

Last year’s event was oversubscribed and even rain didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits. Taking place slightly earlier this year, the CRN Channel Golf challenge is sure to be a hit even if the players aren’t up to scratch.
