Computacenter wins £3.75m government contract

Services firm to provide managed support for Traffic Area Network.

Computacenter has boosted its fortunes just prior to the release of first-half results by winning a £3.75m contract to provide managed support services for the Department of Transport, Local Government and the Regions.

The five-year contract, won following a competitive tendering process, will see Computacenter provide multi-level support to the Traffic Area Network (Tan), the unit responsible for commercial vehicle operator licensing.

The contract covers support for all of Tan's desktop and server infrastructure, including applications, network connectivity and management.

"It was good to increase our base of long-term managed services contracts," said Colin Brown, government sector director at Computacenter. "We are seeing increased focus on the public sector because it's the one sector that's still spending money."

The company, which reports its first-half results this week, warned last month that "in common with much of the industry, sales in the second quarter have been weaker than in the first quarter".

"Our government business has done very well, and the results will be in line with expectations," said Brown.
