KMS signs up with IPC Multimedia

Distie to take on IPC's notebook range

Written by Martin Lynch

Newly rebranded system builder IPC Multimedia is ramping up its notebook push following an alliance with components distributor KMS Components.

The deal will see KMS take on the IPC range of notebooks and represent the distributor's first foray into the laptop marketplace.

It comes just a couple of months after IPC announced that it would offer three-year warranties on all of its notebooks sold into the channel - something only normally offered in direct sales. Formerly IPC Archtec, the new company is the result of a successful management buy-out earlier this year.

"IPC has the product mix and range we are looking for," said Gary Munz, managing director of KMS. "It is an experienced marketer with good-quality notebooks at reasonable prices."

Mike Lockwood, IPC's managing director, said: "Building a successful channel marketing strategy and working with partners in synergy is key. KMS is a very focused company. It offers its customers a flexible service and tailors its product range to suit individual needs and requirements, as does IPC.

"We share the same mentality and business philosophy, which is what makes KMS an ideal partner."

IPC's new alliance comes on the back of its latest innovative service offering, TekCam. Aimed at those taking on IPC products, TekCam is a new support offering that lets retailers go through any technical issues using a web camera support link to IPC.

Staff at the company can take retailers through any minor repair or upgrade procedure over a live video link, via the TekCam portal on the IPC web site.

Lockwood explained: "The TekCam is a real breakthrough in customer service. It is great news for the retailer because it not only speeds up repair and installation processes, but it will also save customers money. It cuts down the number of returns and the expense of couriers."
