Unipalm becomes Computerlinks

Security distributor rebrands

Written by Sara Yirrell

From today security distributor Unipalm will be known as Computerlinks UK, as the company unites under a global brand.

Unipalm was acquired by Computerlinks in 2000 and Dave Ellis, director of e-security at the firm, admitted that the time has come to make the name change.

“We have been co-branding for the past four years and also have the same logo, now we are taking the final steps in moving to the Computerlinks name,” he said. “Most of our customers and suppliers work with Computerlinks and know the name.”

Ellis added that Unipalm is also running the same back-office systems as Computerlinks.

He said: “Unipalm had a strong brand name and customer base, but now the market has changed. Computerlinks is a global brand. Six or seven years ago the security market was more fragmented, but there has been consolidation since then. It makes sense to brand ourselves as one entity.”

Frank Coggrave, regional director at vendor Websense, said: “I think the Computerlinks brand is now a well-known brand. In the future it will help when the distributor is trying to deal with future resellers and vendors looking for European-wide support: having a common brand is important to them. I think Unipalm did miss out in the past to other European players, which already had a unified brand, so this is the right step for the firm.”
