HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) this morning carried out a UK wide set of raids in its latest crackdown on VAT carousel fraud.
The government department is hailing the raids as its "largest ever" operation, with the value of the fraud believed to run into the hundreds of millions of pounds, centered around the sale of mobile phones.
Over 60 addresses in Scotland, Manchester and London were targeted by more than 400 HMRC officers, supported by a further 100 police officers across the UK.
Around 22 people are believed to have been detained as a result of the raids.
HMRC told CRN it couldn't comment further on the operation at this present time because it is still a live operation, and there is a lengthy legal process to go through.
