Xerox puts end to Micro Peripherals distribution deal

C2000 and Ingram left to service vendor's resellers in the UK

Written by Laura Hailstone

Xerox has terminated its distribution agreement with Micro Peripherals (Micro-P), leaving broadliners Computer 2000 (C2000) and Ingram Micro to service Xerox’s UK resellers.

Earlier this year Xerox unveiled plans to drop 46 of its European distributors (CRN, 6 February) under its new SMARTer distribution model.

Three regional master distributors were appointed to service countries across Europe: Tech Data, Ingram and Scribona. However, in the UK Xerox retained Micro-P to work with Ingram and C2000.

Darren Cassidy, general manager of Xerox UK Office Group, said: “Micro-P has been a loyal partner for a number of years and recently has played a very significant and professional role in supporting our transition to the SMARTer Distribution model.

“We’ve been working with Ingram and C2000 for the past few months. They’ve both made the necessary investment, so last month we gave them the green light. It was always part of the agreement that if they both put in the necessary procedures, we would end our agreement with Micro-P.”

Cassidy said the loss of a specialist distributor such as Micro-P should not make any difference to the service levels provided to Xerox’s reseller base.

Steve Lockie, managing director of C2000, said: “We have made a significant investment to create a dedicated Xerox unit so we can provide the specialism that Micro-P provided.”

Micro-P was unavailable for comment as CRN went to press.
