Avnet and Arrow Electronics complete acquisitions

Two of the IT industry's biggest distributors splash the cash

Written by sara yirrell

Two of the IT industry’s biggest distributors – Avnet and Arrow Electronics – announced the completion of their much-publicised acquisitions last week.

Avnet completed its $410.3m acquisition of Access Distribution, formerly a GE Access company, which will see Access fully integrated into Avnet’s Technology Solutions Group by the end of June (CRN Online, 7 November).

Roy Vallee, chief executive of Avnet, said in a statement: “By enhancing our technical capabilities and adding several hundred talented people to our team, Avnet is now able to deliver solutions to a broader base of resellers in North America and Europe. This is an excellent strategic fit that creates significant value.”

Separately, Arrow Electronics announced the completion of its acquisition of InTechnology’s storage and security distribution arm and also snapped up the global distribution business of hybrid reseller/distributor Agilysys for $485m in cash.

Arrow claimed that the £41m acquisition of InTechnology will be handled by its German subsidiary DNS (CRN Online, 7 December) and will enable Arrow to expand its Enterprise Computing Solutions business into the UK.

Cathy Morris, president of Arrow Enterprise Computing Solutions, said: “We expect this transaction to create further opportunities for us in the growing storage and security software markets.”

Kurt Schoeffer, managing director of DNS, said: “The addition of InTechnology’s storage and security distribution business is a key strategic step towards our goal of becoming the pre-eminent provider of enterprise computing solutions in Europe.”

Steve Pearce, chief operating officer at InTechnology, said: “This transaction will enable us to provide a more comprehensive suite of solutions for our reseller customers.”
