Trend Micro will axe at least one of its UK distributors as the vendor looks to rationalise numbers across EMEA.
The security firm currently works with Ingram Micro and Blue Solutions as its broadliners; Computerlinks, e92plus and Sphinx as its value add distributors; and Westcon and Azlan for the convergence sector.
Anthony O’Mara, vice-president sales and operations EMEA at Trend, said: “We are currently going through discussions. We will cut one or more of our UK distributors.” He declined to comment on which firm it might be.
Speculation in the channel is that one of the value distributors will be cut, with e92 top of the list.
However, Mukesh Gupta, managing director of e92, said: “We have confidence in our business proposal. Currently our Trend sales are good.”
Mark Hatton, managing director of Sphinx, said: “Trend is not over distributed, but the next battle ground is the mid-market. Distributors will have to make an investment, which means its makes sense to trim the number.”
Dave Ellis, director of e-security at Computerlinks, said: “Trend has segmented its distributors in the right way. Losing one of them will benefit the remaining firms.”
