Ingram Micro gets Googled

Distribution giant signs global agreement to supply Google appliances to SMEs and public sector organisations

Written by Sara Yirrell

Broadline giant Ingram Micro has revealed its recent distribution agreement with search engine giant Google will be rolled out to other territories.

The agreement, which sees Ingram add Google's Mini and Google Search Appliance (GSA) to its product portfolio, is designed to give Google a leg-up into the SME market as well as the government and education space, through specialist resellers.

Initially the agreement covers the US, but the two firms revealed there would be a 'phased' roll-out in other regions 'at a later date'.

Kevin Murai, chief operating officer at Ingram, said: "This emerging relationship between Google and Ingram Micro marks the beginning of greater opportunities and benefits, especially for SME owners around the world.

"As Google makes a much anticipated entrance into the channel, we look forward to contributing to Google's mission by making its products universally accessible."

Under the terms of the agreement, Ingram will select an appropriate network of partners and provide them will full training.

Dave Girouard, vice president and general manager of Google Enterprise, said: "This relationship with Ingram Micro marks an important milestone in the evolution of Google's enterprise search business, giving customers around the world better access to our products and support.

"Today, more than 9,000 companies of all sizes use the Google Mini or the Google Search Appliance to help employees and customers find information in their business as easily as they find information on the web using Google.com. With the global reach and efficient distribution of Ingram Mico, many more customers will be able to gain the benefits of Google search to their business. "
