Consolidation continues in distribion channel, as Magirus' IBM and HP-focused units are sold to Avnet

Written by Sara Driscoll

Distributor Magirus has sold its Enterprise Infrastructure Division to Avnet for an undisclosed sum.

The move will see all of Magirus’ IBM and Hewlett-Packard franchises in servers, storage, software and services transfer over to Avnet, along with 140 staff.

Fabian von Kuenheim, chairman of the Magirus AG executive board, said: “In future, Magirus will concentrate on the areas of security, virtualisation, open source, storage management and Information Lifecycle Management.
“The sale of our successful Enterprise Infrastructure Division, from a position of strength, makes available resources and management capacity to grow our business in new areas, allowing us to focus on our rapidly expanding and successful IT solution business. Also, our strategy will include further acquisitions to support the growth we are striving for.”

The move will give Avnet a presence in the Nordics and greater footprint in both the UK and Germany, according to the company.
