Tesco expands Catalus partnership

Supermarket giant set to stock own branded Secure Digital memory cards in Express outlets nationwide

Written by Elliott Finch

Tesco is extending its partnership with memory card distributor Catalus.

Under the deal, Tesco's own brand Secure Digital memory cards will be available to buy from over 1300 Tesco Express convenience stores across the UK. The cards, due to be launched later this month will be availablle in 512MB and 1GB capacity.

Dave Flack, sales and marketing director at Catalus, said: "There has always been an assumption that consumers associated technology products – such as memory cards – with specialist retailers.

"With an increase of supermarkets non-food lines, we hope that consumers will now appreciate the opportunity to buy at their convenience."

The view was reiterated by Tesco European photography buyer John Andrew: "My ultimate aim is for Tesco to become as strong in non-food as it already is in food."

Last year Catalus won a deal to supply the supermarket giant with memory cards from Kingston Technology and Sony (CRN, 7 August 2006). The deal was worth £6m over 12 months.
