Europe strong for Bell

Distributor posts 29 per cent hike in European revenues

Written by Doug Woodburn

Bell Micro has pointed to a “strong revenue performance” in Europe after announcing record preliminary revenues for its third quarter.

The US-based storage distributor has recorded a preliminary turnover of between $1.015bn and $1.025bn (£500m and £504m) for the three months to 30 September, a jump of around 30 per cent on an annual comparison.

Bell’s European operations posted revenue growth of around 29 per cent, contributing 42 per cent to the total. Sales of components and peripherals hiked 40 per cent in the region, while solution product revenues increased by a more muted 20 per cent.

On a group basis, Bell’s results were artificially inflated by its recent acquisition of US reseller ProSys Information Systems. Without ProSys’ contribution, total revenues increased 17 per cent.

Donald Bell, president of Bell, said: “We are pleased with the growth in our strategic product categories, and our continued improvement in Europe.

“The acquisition of ProSys has added significant strategic elements to Bell Micro in product depth, customer reach, and technical resources. Given the strength in third quarter revenue performance, we are optimistic about IT spending and our company's ability to generate strong revenue performance again in the fourth quarter.”
