VCW steps into the Breach

Web application firewall vendor Breach Security signs first UK distributor in the form of VCW

Written by Doug Woodburn

US-based web application firewall vendor Breach Security has signed VCW as its first UK distributor.

VCW is hunting for between five and 10 resellers to push Breach’s technology to firms yet to comply with Payment Card Industry (PCI) requirements around web application firewalls.

Breach is also jointly funding a dedicated channel head at VCW, who it is hoped will be in place by January.

Stuart Bullard, channel development manager at VCW Security, told CRN: “We needed to respond to the issues created by targeted attacks and there seemed to be a very big gap in a lot of end-users’ implementation scenarios.

“There are very few technologies around that can do this, and Breach is one of them.”

Bullard said that Breach would be one of just three ‘premium’ vendors for VCW Security moving forward, alongside unified threat management vendor Fortinet and intrusion prevention vendor Reflex Security.

Breach is VCW’s first vendor signing since it acquired rival Fresh Egg in August (CRN, 20 August).

Although Mike Pierce, vice president of channels at Breach Security, admitted Breach plays against more established brands such as Citrix, F5 Networks and Imperva, he claimed the vendor has more credibility around PCI.

“We’re the only software provider on PCI’s advisory council and are working with it on its Data Security Standard (DSS), which takes hold next June,” Pierce said.

Pierce said that DSS would require any firm taking credit card transactions to deploy a web application firewall, but added that many firms still weren’t aware of this.
