DNS Arrow aims to ramp up Sun business

Distributor admits its Sun business is 'not big enough'

Written by Sara Yirrell

DNS Arrow plans to ramp up its Sun and IBM business over the next year as the integration of its recently acquired Centia business comes together.

Earlier this year the distributor realised its virtualisation goals with the acquisition of Centia and AKS Group for $32m (CRN, 13 August).

Steve Pearce, managing director of DNS Arrow, said: “In the UK we are very happy with the business post acquisition. The Centia acquisition was a nice extension of our storage and security play, and it was a real statement of intent on our behalf. This year for us has mainly been about restructuring and developing the business.
“However, going forward we want to concentrate on the Sun marketplace in particular. Our Sun business is not big enough.

“Before we [InTechnology’s distribution business] was acquired by DNS, we were very much a Sun storage CDP, but now we work across all Sun server platforms and have the ability to offer Centia bundling on top. We are also continuing to invest in our IBM relationship which is another key vendor for us.”

Simon Welch, marketing director at rival distributor Horizon, said: “The Sun market is very buoyant indeed, and we are seeing increasing growth in new sectors where Sun has fully embraced volume servers. With the move in the data centre towards virtualisation, Sun is strongly positioned with its current server line up. DNS is a very strong competitor and we take them very seriously indeed.”
