Uplogix urges channel to offer SME services

Channel players should capitalise on the upcoming boom in demand for SME managed services, according to remote management vendor Uplogix.

The firm is proactively seeking new partners in the SME space in 2008 to take advantage of the uptake in services.
Mark Piening, vice president of Uplogix, told CRN: “Uplogix is more enterprise focused than SME, however, we are actively recruiting partners in this area as there is an opportunity there.”
Clive Longbottom, service director at analyst Quocirca, agreed that there was increased demand.
“Large enterprises may have their own departments that are able to deal with infrastructure management, however, SMEs do not.
“The advantage for an SME is that it does not have to go out and look for the skills needed to cover it, as it is offloaded.”
Jon Collins, service director at analyst Freeform Dynamics, said: “The prospects for the channel come from smaller businesses adopting remote management because they are more likely to use resellers. The service does not provide an answer, but precipitates it.”
Eran Farajun, executive vice president of backup service-delivery platform Asigra, told CRN: “Remote management is popular in the mid-market because managing information is a bit like exercising - it is something you do not want to do, but something that is necessary. SMEs need to protect their data.”
