Communications vendor appoints a new enterprise sales sector leader

Communications vendor Alcatel-Lucent has continued to play musical chairs with its UK management line-up as the company’s share price sinks to a five-year low.

David Parker, Alcatel-Lucent’s new UK and Ireland enterprise sales sector leader for its enterprise business group, has stressed the importance of the security market.

He takes over from Doug Rodgers, who himself replaced Graeme Allan last May. Rodgers will remain with Alcatel-Lucent and retains responsibility for energy, defence, government and transport sectors.
Parker told CRN: “I have run channels before. I understand how we need to put new resources in to support them, turning our channel managers into business managers.

“I’m looking to work with our channel partners to realise their potential and will augment that with additional channels. Not a day goes by without someone leaving a laptop on a train, so we have developed a range of security technologies.”

On rumours surrounding the possible departure of Alcatel-
Lucent’s chief executive and the company’s falling stock price, Parker said: “My focus is on enterprise. Our partners are interested in how we can help them and that is really our only focus.”
Mark Hatton, managing director of Alcatel-Lucent distributor Sphinx, said: “Our relationship is very strong and the results of our first year in business together were better than we both planned at the start. Its security products are good and we would be interested in working with Alcatel-Lucent in this area.

“The issues that Alcatel had have been because of difficulties in the carrier space. The enterprise space in the UK has not been affected and is going strong. We are not seeing any customer pushbacks because of
