Hammer riding the hard drive wave

Storage distributor enjoys growth in hard drive area

Written by kayleigh bateman

Storage distributor Hammer has claimed it is riding high on the back of growth from its key hard-drive vendors and Adtron’s solid state disks (SSDs), for which Hammer is the sole pan-European distributor.

Seagate recently reported its second-quarter results for 2008, revealing a net profit increase of 188 per cent year on year and an annual unit shipment surge of 20 per cent.

Gerald Marlow, business development manager at Hammer, said: “The recent release of Seagate’s results saw strong all-round growth, and Hammer has ridden on the back of that.”

Marlow revealed that the distributor had seen an increase in hard drive and SSD sales, particularity in the legal sector and CCTV due to new legislation and compliance issues along with an explosion in data centre adoption.

Alastair Edwards, senior analyst at Canalys, said: “SSD in particular is becoming very popular and we have been hearing that solid state memory may be the next big technology in the next 12 to 18 months.”
