Kingston signs Enta to mark RAM upswing

Memory giant Kingston has appointed an eighth UK distributor for its ValueRAM technology, as evidence builds that prices in the memory market have finally bottomed out.

Enta Technologies has been brought on board to build Kingston’s presence among the channel’s “low-hanging fruit” in the SME space and buying groups Brigantia, Integra and Network Buying Group.

Ann Keefe, UK and Ireland sales director at Kingston, said: “Enta addresses a different part of the
market to our UK distribution base.

“Smaller customers have problems obtaining credit and Enta has a credit card for its partners, which we liked the idea of.”

Jon Atherton, vice president of Enta Technologies, said: “This is a significant step in our bid to grow our memory business. Kingston is number one, so it shows how far we have come in just two years.”

Atherton stressed that the duo had mutually agreed that Enta would not carry Kingston’s gaming products, due to the distributor’s partnership with competitor in that space, Corsair.

The appointment comes as figures from market watcher iSuppli suggest the savage price erosion seen in the DRam space over the past 18 months has finally abated.

According to iSuppli, per megabyte DRam prices will increase two per cent in the second quarter of this year.

Alex Tatham, managing director of rival Simms, said: “We are Kingston’s largest distributor with 40 per cent market share. Another distributor makes no difference to us.”
