Brother takes colour printer market by storm

Vendor has commandeered two-thirds of the high speed laser colour market since its entry last year, figures reveal

Printer vendor Brother has topped the UK high speed laser colour printer market, just a year after launching its first range.

According to figures recently released by analyst GfK the vendor has grabbed 67.8 per cent share of the market.

GfK’s report, for colour laser machines with speeds of 20-30ppm, ranked Brother in pole position.

Phil Jones, sales and marketing director at Brother, said: “Brother spent a long time developing its colour laser range to ensure that when we went to market, we would have a product that could out-perform rivals machines and provide genuine value for end users.

“These latest figures show our confidence in the range was justified and our colour lasers are proving to be the perfect solution for smaller, growing businesses.”

Jones added that the success of these machines has allowed Brother to launch new initiatives for its resellers. This has allowed the vendor to work closely with its partners and offer them more margin as part of Brother’s ambitious strategy to increase its sales in this sector.

“The channel is Brother’s most important route to market and without its partners it would never have achieved these sales figures for the colour laser range,” said Jones.

Furthermore HP, which previously had 88.4 per cent of the market, has seen its sales decline in the past year by 71 per cent, according to GfK.
