Oracle bags ClearApp

Database behemoth racks up seventh acquisition this year in form of application management software firm ClearApp

Written by Sam Trendall

Vendor Oracle has snapped up application management software specialist ClearApp for an undisclosed sum.

ClearApp's software will now be folded into Oracle's Enterprise Manager line of products. The deal is subject to customary closing conditions and is expected to close later this year. Until then, the two companies will continue trading independently.

ClearApp specialises in application management offerings for composite applications based on service oriented architecture platforms. The company was founded in 2002 and is based in California.

The deal is Oracle's seventh acquisition of this year, having made 11 in 2007. The biggest of these is the buy-out of BEA Systems for $8.5bn, a deal which the European Commission green-lighted in April.

Oracle's vice president of applications and systems management Leng Leng Tan said: "As customers deploy more SOA-based applications, the task of effectively managing them becomes paramount. Oracle is focused on delivering the best solutions for managing such complex application environments by delivering solutions for end-user experience management, business services and application performance management, as well as application testing and quality management.

"With the addition of ClearApp's technology to the Oracle Enterprise Manager product family, our customers are expected to get continuous and uninterrupted top-down views of their business services and applications, helping them maximise service availability while reducing IT operations costs."
