Cisco gear was target of Damovo raid

Police reveal £125,000 worth of kit stolen in last month's raid

Written by Doug Woodburn

Police have confirmed that the gang that raided VAR Damovo last month were specifically targeting Cisco equipment.

According to a police statement, the perpetrators made off with $188,000 (£125,000) worth of Cisco kit after using verbal and physical force to gain entrance to the VAR’s head office in Horsham, West Sussex, on 18 December.

Contrary to earlier information, Damovo has confirmed that one of its employees suffered an injury to his wrist during the raid, which began at 8.30pm. The criminals initially gained access to the building by accosting a female member of staff in a nearby car park.

Police have now released an e-fit of one of the six men and are appealing to anyone who saw their white van in the area at the time of the incident.

DI Jo Banks, who is leading the investigation, said: “This was a specific offence where the men have purposely targeted Cisco equipment from the warehouse at Damovo.

“Those employees present at the time were subjected to a traumatic experience. Despite this they were all able to give detailed accounts which the police are working on.”

Banks told CRN that the Cisco equipment comprised a mix of data networking, voice services and routers.

The police have stressed that the stolen equipment did not hold any customer data and was due to be used by Damovo itself.
