Mesh enters dragon’s den

System builder talks up strong bond with AMD as it launches range based on the Dragon platform

Written by Nick Booth

PC maker Mesh – one of the last companies standing in the UK system builder space – has launched a new range based on AMD’s Dragon Technology Platform.

Tony Riccardi, Mesh’s sales and marketing director, was bullish about the company’s continuing survival and said Mesh enjoyed a strong bond with AMD.

“We are really excited about the AMD Phenom II processor technology on its own," he said. "But what makes this launch special is the strength that is created when systems are 100 per cent based on the powerful Dragon Platform.”

The 15-year partnership between Mesh and AMD has made the UK PC maker a strategic launch partner for every generation of AMD processor, he claimed.

“We can see all the positive ways in which AMD is developing as a company and the launch of the Phenom II processor shows that AMD continues to be a serious competitor,” he said.

The Matrix II range begins with an AMD Phenom II X4 920-based PC at £749, featuring an HIS 4850 IceQ graphics accelerator on an AMD chipset mainboard from Asus, with a 22in Iiyama widescreen HD monitor.

At the top end of the range, the Matrix II X4 940 uses AMD processors running all four 64-bit cores at 3GHz, with a 1GB HIS 4870 IceQ4+ graphics card. The hard drive doubles to 1TB and the system comes complete with a Blu-Ray drive.

However, it is not all about processing power, Riccardi warned.

“Look and feel is important to our customers so we selected the Hush chassis for a great-looking brushed metal finish,” he said.
