Logicalis bags £6m Olympics deal

VAR rolls out network for Greenwhich Council as 2012 Games approach

Written by Doug Woodburn

Logicalis has won a £6m contract to deploy and manage an IT network that will be used by citizens and visitors to the London 2012 Olympics.

The VAR has signed a seven-year managed IT service contract with Greenwich Council. The deal includes the upgrade and implementation of a LAN and WAN that will support e-services used during the Games in three years’ time.

Logicalis will also provide ongoing consultancy services for the London Borough in areas such as new multi-media applications.

Over the next 12-18 months over 10,000 employees will be migrated to the new converged voice and data network.

Cllr Peter Brooks said: “2012 will see a significant increase in demand for council services, and therefore we wanted an IT partner to help us meet this challenge. We value consultancies that are able to bring innovation and ideas to the table, but which also have an appreciation of the commercial sensitivities associated with public sector expenditure.”

Tom Kelly, managing director of Logicalis UK, said: “Outsourcing basic but essential IT maintenance, in this case the LAN and WAN, will help Greenwich Council to redirect its attention toward seeking greater value from its business processes and services, whilst at the same time stabilising operational expenditure.”
