ITACS and NASCR merger welcomed

Two organisations pledge to become one 'major industry force'

Written by kayleigh bateman

The channel has embraced the planned merger of the Independent Trade Association of Computing Specialists (ITACS) and the National Association of Specialist Computer Retailers (NASCR).

Last week ITACS and NASCR agreed that because of their similarities, the two associations will put it to members later this month that they should become one “major industry force”. If it is approved by both associations’ members, the duo will be rebranded as NASCRITACS.

NASCR has about 120 members to ITACS’s 200 and Jenny Simpson, chairperson of NASCR, said the merger would be a natural step. “As one large organisation we will have a bigger voice,” she said.

“It is difficult for everyone right now and we need to keep the value of the independents at the forefront.”

Matt Woolley, ITACS chairman, said: “We will take the strengths of both associations and combine them to make one larger industry force.”

The announcement was also greeted by members. John Star, technician at NASCR member Lothian Computer Systems, said: “The merger is a good idea, it is just what the industry needs. Businesses are closing every day and associations such as NASCR can help them survive.

“They support us by feeding through information about pricing so we get a variety of products at the best possible prices,” he added.

Keith Humphreys, managing consultant at market watcher EuroLAN, said: “This is a positive move for the industry the larger the two associations, the more weight they have behind them.”
