Fujitsu takes on SCHd for servers

Distributor hires four-strong team dedicated to Primergy partnership

Written by Doug Woodburn

Fujitsu Technology Solutions has extended its alliance with SCH Distribution (SCHd) to include its Primergy server and storage range.

SCHd already carried Fujitsu’s PCs but has been brought on board for Primergy as part of the vendor’s plans to swell its global server market share.

The distributor has hired a four-strong team dedicated to the alliance, which CRN understands will be led by former Lenovo manager Lee McEvoy.

Fujitsu’s server line-up previously comprised Northamber, Micro Peripherals and Ingram Micro. But it is believed the vendor was keen to add a more enterprise-focused distributor with SCHd’s ties with Citrix and VMware a key attraction.

The partnership means that SCHd now works with four of the five top server manufacturers through its trading brands. Interface already boasted ties with IBM and Sun, while ETC works with HP. The partnership with Fujitsu will straddle ETC, Interface and Interchange.

Since buying out German partner Siemens, Fujitsu has made no secret of its ambition to make more of an impact in the global server space. In March, Fujitsu president Kuniaki Nozoe said he was looking to increase the firm’s share of the global x86 market from four to seven per cent within two years.
