VMware guns for Virtual Iron leftovers

Virtualisation giant offers migration path to VMware vSphere 4 after Oracle announces the discontinuation of Virtual Iron products

Written by Kayleigh Bateman

VMware is courting Virtual Iron customers, following Oracle's announcement that it would discontinue the virtualisation vendor's products.

The virtualisation giant is offering a migration route to VMware vSphere 4, for Virtual Iron customers who have been left out on a limb after Oracle acquired the vendor last month.

In a letter to Virtual Iron partners, Oracle said it would "suspend development of existing Virtual Iron products and will suspend delivery of orders to new customers."

VMware is enticing Virtual Iron customers who have a current licence and support contract with discounts on VMware vSphere 4 and VMware vCenter Server.

Those eligible will receive discounts off the list price for VMware vSphere 4 Advanced Edition, VMware vSphere 4 Enterprise Plus Edition, VMware vCenter Server Foundation and VMware vCenter Server Standard.

Discounts are also available for support and subscription (SnS) on VMware vSphere 4 Advanced Edition, VMware vSphere 4 Enterprise Plus Edition, VMware vCenter Server Foundation and VMware vCenter Server Standard.

The offer is valid until 30 September.
